Week 25 - Act on your plan (Take Action)

Reflection - Week 25
Take Action - Activity 1

Step 1: Actions - What have I done so far?

Technical Tasks
For my action plan, I had set out a number of tasks to complete during the holidays. Initial steps were taken to review with management what version of Seesaw would be used across the school. Additional tasks involved the involved the use of the school SMS information to establish school Google accounts for Year 3-6 students to use with their classroom Seesaw account.  Other technical tasks involved installing the Seesaw App in the school iPads.

Survey - Design and Distribution - Preview Survey
During this phase, the Preview surveys were being designed using Google Forms for the various stakeholders (teachers, students, parents). At this stage, the Teacher Preview survey was emailed and completed by the teachers during a TOD session.

Seesaw Presentation - Communication - Digital Portfolio
After the teacher Preview survey, an initial presentation about Seesaw was shared by one of our Junior teachers. We reviewed how the Juniors would log in using QR codes and the Y3-6 would be access Seesaw using their Google login details. During this TOD session, it was reviewed that Seesaw will replace the current use of classroom blogs and digital portfolios.

Step 2: Reflection about the actions.
I was pleased with my early preparations and detailed Action Plan that helped identify what needed to be completed in advance of the TOD session. Being able to have teachers complete the Preview Survey using Google Forms has helped to provide some important baseline data. A challenge was setting up the Junior class accounts with their students as they will be trialling the paid version and the rest of the school the free version. Upon reflection, something I would have done differently would have been to have more time during the TOD Seesaw session. This would have to ensured that all the teachers had a go at adding a picture and include a comment features of Seesaw.

Step 3: Reflection linked to Spiral of Inquiry

When considering the Spiral of Inquiry I feel the work around developing the hunch phase has been instrumental. In the education sector, the sharing of learning and communication with parents seems to be evolving.  There is a need to provide timely information and updates and to reduce barriers for teachers sending out the information and parents retrieving it. During this initial phase of the Inquiry I feel I have been using the servant leadership approach with getting things set up and running. Robert Greenleaf is credited for developing the servant leadership concept in which the focus of leadership is on others and helping them strive and flourish (Stone, A.G., Russell, R.F. & Patterson, K., 2004). Later  I will move into a more transformational leadership mode. As I will focus on supporting and motivating others with their form communication with parents and the learning that is shared (Stone, A.G., Russell, R.F. & Patterson, K. 2004).
